On Wednesday, June 13, we are going to fill in the new raised bed with soil, compost and plants. We are welcoming any parent volunteers who would like help us. We are going to encourage kids during the 2nd nutrition break to join us for the fun as well. Bring your shovels and rakes.
Many people have asked about donating plants. In this first garden, we are trying to attract butterflies by planting butterfly host plants (what they lay eggs on - milkweed for monarchs, dill and parsley for swallowtails, pussytoes and pearly everlasting for painted ladies, etc.) and nectar plants (what the adult butterflies eat). One list we are using as a guide as to what to plant is the Monarch Watch's Waystation list. If you have a particular plant in mind, see Nikki or Jennifer.
